State of Me

A quick update on what I’ve been up to recently.

Work at Fashionphile has been going well. A lot of projects keeping me busy.

The video of the presentation that I gave at the UtahJS conference this last September was recently posted to YouTube. I’m simultaneously proud and a little embarrassed about it, but I think it was a good first swing at giving a professional presentation. I’m currently working on editing my notes into a format so I can publish my presentation here.

Personal projects

My portfolio site at donaldlivingston.com was hacked recently. Rather than restore it I put up a placeholder. I was in the preliminary stages of redesigning/rebuilding it anyway. The design of the old site was initially built back in 2014, so it was definitely due for a refresh. I decided to build it as a Single-Page-App (SPA) to flex my Front-End JavaScript skills. My WordPress theme needed very little in terms of JS, so I kept everything vanilla for the most part. For my portfolio site however I will need to use a framework. My present dilemma with the project is trying to decide which framework to use. I’m trying to decide between React or Vue. If I were to use Vue it would definitely be easier as I have slightly more experience with it, and I’d probably be able to do more fun things with it. If I go with React it’d give me a chance to expand my skills there, but it would also be slower going.

Decisions, decisions…
